Tonight, Andrew and Kyle from Keep it Light will be showing their photos at Winners Circle. There will also be photos from other talented photographers such as Aya Sato, April Brimer, and Christine Hahn

Week 5 - Decade/Era

This weeks assignment was to shoot a photo from a specific time period or era. We got a pretty wide range of time dating from before christ up to the 90's.

Andrew - Andrew took this shot of his grandma in her bedroom. Next to her are old photos of his grandfather that were taken throughout the years. This one wasnt one specific decade but more of a lifespan.

Annie - went with a mod 60's look in this stunning photo

Frank - This one goes way back to the land before christ. Here Adam takes a bite out of the forbidden apple. A menacing snake is coiled around his neck who just bit him.

Lauren - This one is from 1992 to be exact. The ringpop brought me back to my childhood.

Kyle - decided to combine his love of shooting fashion with his love of classic Furniture Design. The Chairs are 60's Herman Miller Eames Designs and the outfits were both 60's as well.

Nas - was inspired by articles in Seattle Magazine from the late sixties. He'd been reading on race relations and the black panther movement in Seattle.

Ursula - 60's french - trying to capture the essence over the style.

Nick - Heavily influenced by the late 80's to early 90's, this aztec print clad fellow shows off his gaming prowess.

The Second Part of 2 week Assignment was using a Disposable camera. Taking us away from our favorite camera comfort zone, we were forced to rely on seeing a good image and hoping for the best when we got the roll back.

Week 3/4

For weeks 3 and 4 we had a two part assignment.

Part 1: To choose a book you love and create an image out of a paragraph in the book. The book I chose was Always Running By Luis Rodriguez. It is the true account of a man who grew up in the latino gang life in Los Angeles during the 60's and 70's. He explains the book was made in hopes of making sure his own son never went that route. His son Ramiro did end up in the LA Gang Life and is currently serving a large prison sentence because of it. My portrait was supposed to be Ramiro, in a paragraph where Luis talks about how much pain and scars his son hides underneath his skin. He has finally reconciled with his son and they both have found a relationship after all this time.

Nick Bartoletti:
The book Nick chose was 'please kill me' and the paragraph basically consisted of Dee Dee ramone talking about how sid vicous crushed up speed, put it into a syringe and stuck it in the toiled. he sucked up the water with piss and puke and injected it. pretty ridiculous. it was funny hearing people talk about how someone puked in the bathroom after this covert shoot. it was actually chunky beef soup.

Week 2 (part 1): Storyline:

For week 2 we all wrote one sentence story lines and added them to a pile. We randomly chose from the pile and had to create a photo based on the storyline we were given. Here are the first batch from the group. Few more to come:

Lauren max-"You were just told something that changes your life forever" Lauren's self portrait was inspired by the one year anniversary of the passing of her father. She used his clothing as well a portrait she took of him to create this image.

Kyle Johnson-"He knows he's being followed..." I decided to put a play on the word followed using the all more common refrence to "following" on Twitter. My friend Phil Reed aka Pheed runs the twitter for Poor Life Choices as well as his own and has quite the following. I followed him throughout the day to create this series of images.

Clayton Ryan-"Your 18th Birthday" Clayton said his 18th was spent alone on his familys property listening to records and enjoying time alone. He encountered some bad weather the night of his shoot but still pulled off the outdoor setup knee deep in water.

Andrew Waits-"My sisters Barbie made me do it" Andrew's diptych involved someone hiding and the scene of the act they committed.

Frank Correa-"Fresh Love feels Funny" Franks series of images involves a guy impregnating himself and the series showing him ending up having a baby.

Nick Bartoletti-"A shopping trip." Nick decided to photograph the always awkward shopping trip of a guy buying tampons for his girlfriend.

Keep It Light is a group of ten Seattle Photographers. Meeting weekly with the purpose of creating images, collaborating, and pushing each other to stay creative and inspired.
